Visiting a piece of NYPD Emergency Service History

The NYC Auxiliary Police and its Support Units in their current form are equipped and are summoned to respond to mobilizations, disasters or any type of need seen fit. The units were born out of what used to be Civil Defense and its corresponding structure at that time which was the late 1950s. Now fifty plus years later and after being brought over and restructuring to the NYPD in the 1960s. This elite unit has had many changes thru the years from Civil Defense Rescue, Auxiliary Emergency Service, to the current scheme the Auxiliary Patrol Support Unit. The Auxiliary Police and its volunteer members always stand ready to assist.
